4 Tips To Help You Be In Control Of Your Own Destiny
1. Have a plan
Sounds simple right? The more detailed your plan the less likely you’ll be to get distracted as your time will be filled with the activities YOU choose to do. You’re not leaving chance for your brain to get distracted because of indecisiveness. Start with the goal you want to achieve eg. run 5k easily. Then break this down into the steps you need to take eg. Download the couch to 5k app, find a running buddy or running club for accountability and then plan in when your going to do the runs in your weekly plan. Each week you can then put your runs in your daily plan and allocate the time that you will do these. Do the same for all your other goals.
2. Avoid social media and emails until you've done your key actions
One of the biggest things that can take your control is the demands that other people make on your time. This can easily happen once you open your emails and start responding to people and the requests that they have of you or messages on social media. On social media it can also be easy to get distracted and sent down a rabbit hole that isn’t in alignment with your goals and actions. Keeping off social media and emails until you’ve completed your key actions that are taking you towards your goal each day will help to avoid this happening.
3. Say NO More
How often do you find yourself saying yes to things that take up your time but aren’t contributing to your own goals? Once you learn to say no more you will free up more time to focus on the things that you really want to do. It can feel tricky to start, especially if you are the kind of person who likes to help anyone who asks. But ultimately you are doing yourself and other people who need your help a disservice by keeping you from your highest good. So the next time someone makes a demand of your time stop and ask yourself, is this going to help me move towards my own goals quicker? If the answer is no then you know what your answer needs to be.
You don’t need to be quite as blunt as just saying no but you can explain politely that right now you’re not able to help but that you wish them well in what they are doing and that in the future you may be able to help them again.
4. Turn off your phone
If your struggling with no.2 and still finding yourself distracted by social media and emails and possibly phone calls then turning off your phone completely while you complete your key actions could b the drastic action you need. It can feel really liberating to not have the distraction of a phone call, or notification ping interrupting your flow and being able to crack on with your key actions peacefully and mega efficiently.
